Since this is a valid observation do file a bug report on DXX-Rebirth Ryu, even as it stands now. We might get to it faster with more help.

Thanks for posting this man.

It was, indeed, quite strange. No wonder I've had "WTF"s when hitting some folks with flash missiles and wonder why they can still fight back responsively, but I can't? :)

I have had this problem for years. Currently I run an Nvida GEforce GT 610. I get a complete white out for 8 to 10 seconds. I use to run I believe it was an Nvida MX 440. The only improvement I got was adjusting the gamma. When I use to play D2 in 3D video stereo, I noticed a great improvement in that the white out only lasted for a couple of seconds. One key thing was that I was forced to use an old Nvida driver. I am not sure but the number 35.10 sticks in my mind as the driver version that I was using. Later versions would not give me the 3D video stereo. This was also when we all were using D2X-W32. My version was 1.3.34 and seemed to be bug free. It did not have all of the fancy graphic options that you found in the later XL versions. Now no matter what adjustments I make I still get a complete white out so I usually just let go of the stick and sit there and usually get killed do so.

I also go completely blind when I get hit. I think I always have. I will sometimes still be able to see if it only hits nearby, but generally it is a white-out. Interesting find. When people get hit and can still shoot back, I figured I just didn't hit them as well as I had hoped.

Edit: and after looking at the screenshots, I definitely get the same thing Verran gets.

I can see just a little bit through a direct hit - it's at least enough that enemy cockpits are still meaningfully visible. Might mean I have more like Ryusei's level of white-out...

zico got ahold of me on IM and we chatted a bit about this. He's definitely concerned about it and suspects it has something to do with brightness levels. He asked me to check a few Descent 2 settings, of which I'll get back to him with (screenshots). I'll need some testers for later this week, if anyone is available. I think the more variations we send him, the easier it will be for the area of concern to be tracked down. Thanks!!
